Jake Shields Out Of WSOF Debut Fight With Jon Fitch

An injury has forced Jake Shields to postpone his World Series of Fighting debut against Jon Fitch at WSOF 11. first reported news of the injury.

Shields and Fitch were expected to serve as the co-main event to the July 5 card, which has been rumored for NBC instead of NBC Sports Network. The main event that night will see WSOF lightweight champion Justin Gaethje meet Nick Newell.

Shields (29-7-1) was released by the UFC following a loss earlier this year to Hector Lombard. The former Strikeforce champion and one-time title contender to Georges St-Pierre has gone 5-3 with one no-contest since 2010.

Fitch (25-6-1), also a former UFC welterweight title contender to GSP, snapped a two-fight losing skid by earning a split decision over Marcelo Alfaya last October. He is just 2-3-1 in his last six overall.

Below is the current lineup for the night:

Welterweight: Jon Fitch vs. TBA

Lightweight: Melvin Guillard vs. Gesias Cavalcante
