Tim SylviaIt's been a rough week for former UFC Heavyweight Champion Tim Sylvia. After being de-pants following a ten second knockout loss at the hands of 48 year old former heavyweight boxing champion Ray Mercer in Birmingham, AL this past Saturday, MMAFanhouse.com is reporting that Sylvia has been pulled from his upcoming bout with Paul Buentello at Affliction: Trilogy.

“It’s his second knockout in a row, and I don’t want to take a chance on anything,” Affliction VP Tom Atencio told MMAFanhouse.com regarding Sylvia, who showed up at the fight weighing a hefty 310 pounds. “The fight is less than 60 days away.”

Syvlia, who has lost four of his last five fights, announced this past February that he would be training to make his boxing debut against Ray Mercer on May 30th at the Trump Taj Mahal Casino Resort in Atlantic City, NJ. The New Jersey State Athletic Control Board refused to sanction this fight, so the bout was moved to Birmingham, AL. After facing sanctioning problems again at the last minute, the bout was changed to be contested under MMA rules. One would think that the change would have favored Sylvia greatly, however "The Maine-iac" proved us all wrong.

Sylvia is likely losing a giant payday, as he had earned $800,000 for his last fight at Affliction on July 19th, 2007, where he suffered a quick nine second loss to WAMMA Heavyweight Champion Fedor Emelianenko. While Sylvia is off the card, Paul Buentello will still be competing, likely against the winner of the upcoming Gilbert Yvel - Pedro Rizzo matchup at “Ultimate Chaos” on June 27th.
