Gabriel Gonzaga has begun preparing for his upcoming fight against undefeated UFC top prospect Shane Carwin (10-0) on March 7 at UFC 96 in Columbus, Ohio. Gonzaga is currently in Brazil focusing on his Brazilian jiu-jitsu but will be making his way to Massachusetts in January to join Team Link to finish up his training.
"Gabriel is in Brazil training a lot of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu where we believe will be the key to win this match," said Team Link Lead Trainer Marco Alvan. "Napao will be conducting a seminar at Team Link Uberlandia-Brazil on January 11th and after that will be coming to Massachusetts to join the team and get ready for the fight."
With a win, Alvan believes that Gonzaga will earn the right to face the winner of Lesnar-Mir II.
"It's going to be a tough fight and [if he wins] Napao (Gonzaga) will have [earned the right] to face the winner of Mir vs. Lesnar. But we're not thinking about that because we have to respect Carwin and we're focused on this fight."
Gonzaga is coming off of a dominant first round TKO victory over Josh Hendricks at UFC 91.
