With the massive amounts of media covering UFC 91, many had the perception that the UFC was hitting mainstream. Apparently the UFC doesn't think so as a pitched marketing campaign was turned down by the promotion.
An image of a battered football player on crutches was the heart of the marketing ploy attempting to show that the UFC has put a dent into "mainstream" sports.
Earlier today, the UFC clarified the issue stating:
Zuffa, LLC was made aware of the internet presence of several photographs from an advertising campaign that was proposed but rejected by the UFC®. Zuffa has not endorsed these photos, nor are they part of any approved UFC® advertising campaign.
