A source close to the promotion has informed Fightline.com that a proposed title match between Jake Shields and John Alessio will not happen due in part to an injury that Alessio recently sustained.

Shields has also been quite outspoken about wanting to take an undisclosed opportunity that he has to fight outside of the organization. All signs point to a fight with Matt Lindland for Affliction, and sources have confirmed the possibility, but EliteXC has yet to sign of apparently.

EliteXC will now turn their attention to their upcoming CBS event set to take place on October 4.
