Holly Holm Learns From First UFC Appearance, Scores Decision

It went to the scorecards, but Holly Holm heard her name called as a winner inside the Octagon for the first time Saturday night at UFC 184.

Holm (8-0), a former three-division world boxing champion, controlled the pace with her striking and kicks, but was never able to really hurt Pennington (5-6).

“I hate that it was a split decision,” she said. “I had to change the game plan a little bit because she was shooting more than working inside the clinch.”

After suffering an injury in training Holm’s UFC debut was delayed. She left boxing as one of the greatest ever, and is now set on doing the same in MMA.

“This was a new experience and with the pressure and hype, I don’t feel like I can live up to it,” she said. “There were a lot of nerves.”

Pennington was a contestant on The Ultimate Fighter.
