Hector Lombard Looking To Score Mega-Fight With GSP

Hector Lombard

Former Bellator champion Hector Lombard believes he is one of the best welterweights in the world.

To prove that, Lombard wants a match with former UFC champion Georges St-Pierre. Lombard talked with Submission Radio out of Australia recently about such a bout with the currently-on-hiatus GSP.

Reports are circulating that the UFC could debut in Melbourne, Australia next year with a stadium event. And Lombard wants to be in the headline act.

“GSP. And like let’s suppose like if I can’t fight for the title for some reason, you know I really would love to (fight GSP),” he said. “I know that GSP is coming out of retirement so I really would love to have a big fight between me and GSP in Australia. That would be a shocker?”

St-Pierre left MMA with the UFC title, vacating it when he did. During his run, GSP defeated the likes of BJ Penn, current champ Johny Hendricks, Josh Koscheck, Dan Hardy and countless others. Lombard, though, believes he has the skills to defeat him.

“I can take a punch and my wrestling’s improving every day,” he said. “So it’s going to be very hard for him to get me down and my stand up, he’s got no chance with me. That’s for sure.”

Lombard is currently set to face Josh Burkman this January at UFC 182hec, but he has a long list of future opponents even if St-Pierre doesn’t return.

“I would just love to fight after my next fight maybe Carlos Condit or somebody,” he said. “I’ve been trying to get a hold of Matt Brown. He disappeared, and now he got a fight. But before he got a fight scheduled, I was on Twitter all the time calling him out and he never answered.”
