It sounds like Hector Lombard wasn’t keen on the idea of cutting to welterweight, but when the UFC insisted he did as asked. In his first welterweight fight at UFC 166, Lombard didn’t need outside of two minutes to stop Nate Marquardt.
“I do whatever the UFC bosses want,” said Lombard to MMA Fighting. “I didn’t want to go down to 170 and they said take it or leave it. Now I’m grateful they took that decision. They know the sport more than me.”
Lombard vacated the Bellator middleweight belt when he signed a UFC contract. Before dropping to welterweight, Lombard was 1-2 for the UFC.
It’s the third consecutive defeat for Marquardt this year. He lost the Strikeforce welterweight belt to start the year and now has a pair of first round losses.
The two could be spotted on the prelims of UFC 166. For complete results, click here.
