Greg Jackson wasn’t able to be in the corner of light heavyweight champion Jon Jones at UFC 165, but watched his five round war with Alexander Gustafsson. As for the challenger’s fierceness, Jackson wasn’t surprised.
“I wasn’t shocked at all,” said Jackson on The MMA Hour. “I know Alexander’s great. I’ve studied him a lot. It wasn’t like terribly shocking.”
The studying paid off for Jones, who remained the champion and broke the division’s record with six title defenses. It was the second time Gustafsson has been defeated inside the Octagon.
Both fighters are currently serving 60 day medical suspensions.
The two closed UFC 165, which was September 21. It came from the Air Canada Centre and complete results can be found here.
