The epic light heavyweight title fight between Jon Jones and Alexander Gustafsson has people wondering if an immediate rematch should be in the works. UFC president Dana White wasn’t sure at the post-fight conference if the rematch would be booked.
This leaves newly named No. 1 contender Glover Teixeira with uncertainty about his title shot. If the rematch happens, Teixeira will take another fight.
“For sure they’re going to give me another fight, I don’t want to wait for the rematch,” said Teixeira on the Fox Sports Post-Fight Show. “It is the way it is, I’m not going to say that he doesn’t deserve a rematch. It was a phenomenal fight and we’ll see what happens.”
Teixeira entered the UFC last year and has taken five wins to up his winning streak past 20 fights. Earlier in the month, he finished Ryan Bader in less than three minutes.
Jones and Gustafsson are currently out on medical suspensions.
