Giva Santana Confident Old Age Will Help In Today’s Bellator 98 Middleweight Tournament

Giva Santana is the oldest entrant in today’s Bellator Season 9 middleweight tournament, but the soon to be 42-year-old feels he holds the advantage with nothing to lose. The entire tournament opens with Santana against the 28-year-old Jason Butcher.

“He may be good on the ground, but I’ve been doing this my entire life, so he won’t be at any sort of advantage,” said Santana to MMA Junkie.

Since 2005, MMA has been a source of income for Santana. He’s 2-1 for Bellator and couldn’t get past the quarterfinals in Season 6. Santana hasn’t fought in almost a year, when he took a second round submission over Brendan Sequin.

Butcher is undefeated as a pro with six wins. Not one of those fights left the opening round and five have ended via submission. This is Butcher’s fourth Bellator appearance.

Bellator 98 comes from the Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, CT. Spike TV airs the main card live at 8 p.m. ET and prelims start at 6 p.m. ET at Stay with FightLine for the play-by-play.
