Gilbert Melendez wants what is best for business and that means he gets the winner of the upcoming lightweight title fight. Closing UFC on FOX 9 is champ Anthony Pettis taking on Josh Thomson.
“It’s one of those things that I also believe will be good for business,” said Melendez on Inside MMA. “The fans want see it, I want it bad. I think we are big names, I think it’s gonna be great for pay-per-view. We are two guys who like to fight and if I can get your support and everyone out there’s support and who wants to see it. I want the winner of that title fight”
Pettis won the title a few months back in his second meeting with Benson Henderson. Thomson returned to the UFC with a stoppage over Nate Diaz. TJ Grant has been the No. 1 contender for a while now, but a concussion is causing a delay and the UFC has said they won’t wait.
Melendez took Fight of the Night at UFC 166 in possibly the best contest of the year with decision over Diego Sanchez .
