Georgi Karakhanyan Injured, Daniel Weichel To Get Bellator Title Shot

bellator 138

Patricio “Pitbull” Freire will now take on Daniel Weichel at Bellator 138 for his featherweight title after a torn ACL knocked Georgi Karakhanyan out.

The Los Angeles Daily Times first reported the news of Karakhanyan’s injury, as the former World Series of Fighting champion will likely be sidelined for several months recovery.

Freire and Weichel will be the co-main event for the June 19 card from St. Louis, as Kimbo Slice meets Ken Shamrock in the Spike TV headliner.

Weichel (35-8) claimed the Season 10 tournament title with a win over Desmond Green and has since downed former champion Pat Curran as part of a seven-fight win streak. Freire (23-2) earned a successful title defense vs. Daniel Straus earlier this year.
