Former UFC welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre is denying reports from several sources that he is planning a return to MMA.
Earlier this week, Renzo Gracie stated on “The MMA Hour” that he believed GSP was coming back in the near future. That was followed up by his former manager, Stephane Patry, telling RDS about a return.
Firas Zahabi, the coach for St-Pierre and a long-time friend, informed MMAFighting.com that there is nothing to the reports.
“Georges has absolutely no return plan,” Zahabi said.
Zahabi also made it known that plans for a gym to be opened by St-Pierre in Montreal is for rehabilitation and not MMA, adding “nothing exciting” about it.
St-Pierre stepped away from the sport last year after defeating Johny Hendricks and retaining his title. He suffered a torn ACL this past March in training, and was also featured in the summer blockbuster film “Captain America: The Winter Soldier.”
