For Bellator, Ben Askren is their top welterweight, holding an undefeated record and possessing the gold. He’s spoken about taking on Georges St-Pierre and the longtime UFC welterweight champ is on-board.
“Of course [I’d like to fight him],” said St-Pierre to MMA Junkie. “He’s a good fighter and yes, if he comes, I’ll fight him. No problem. Bring him in, I’ll fight everyone. I am the champion and I have no choice, so it’s no problem. I’m not afraid.”
Askren has completed his Bellator contract and the promotion kind of offered him to the UFC. Bellator said they would waive any negotiating period if Askren was given an immediate title shot with St-Pierre.
The UFC isn’t buying into Bellator’s idea, questioning why they would let their champion just leave.
Askren last fought during the Summer Series and there’s no word on what’s next.
