Frank Mir complained about the stoppage Saturday night at UFC 164 because he felt he had a chance to push Josh Barnett into deep waters.
Instead, Mir was left with a third straight loss and looking for an unclear future.
“I am in the best shape I’ve been in,” Mir said. “This was the lightest I’ve been and I knew my cardio would be a weapon.
“A lot of my frustration is because that never came to be and I never got to showcase that.”
Barnett, also a former UFC heavyweight champion like Mir, delivered a knee off the clinch that dropped Mir. The ref quickly jumped in, and Mir protested as soon as he did. Even UFC president Dana White believed the stoppage was quick.
Mir added that he “felt there was no way (Barnett) was keeping that pace for 15 minutes,” and he was “looking for an opportunity after weathering the storm.”
