In a meeting of heavyweight contenders, it was Francis Ngannou coming out on top over Curtis Blaydes Sunday at UFC Fight Night 86.
The bout was stopped before the third round could begin due to the eye of Blaydes swelling shut. The debuting fighter tried to stay in the contest, but the doctor called it off.
Ngannou (7-1) has now won six fights in a row, adding to his December knockout at UFC on FOX 17 over Luis Henrique Barbosa de Oliveira.
“The game plan was to stick to it, fight, box and keep it standing,” he said. “That was the game plan and it worked.”
For Blaydes, the loss dropped him to 5-1.
