It wasn’t the kind of weekend Emanuel newton was hoping for at Bellator 134, as he dropped the light heavyweight title to Liam McGeary.
Now, Newton finds himself suspended and with $3,000 less in his bank account after failing the post-fight drug test.
According to a post by The MMA Report, Newton was found to have marijuana in his system during the secondary drug test given by the Mohegan Tribe Department of Athletic Regulations. He has been suspended for 90 days and fined, and must submit a clean drug test when the suspension is up.
Bellator released a statement to the site regarding Newton:
“It is important for all athletes to abide by the rules of the governing commission and we fully support the commission in their decision,” the statement said. “We look forward to seeing Mr. Newton get back in the cage once he serves his suspension.”
