Boxing champion Floyd Mayweather is venturing into the world of mixed martial arts.
Before you get upset, “Money” isn’t planning on taking action inside the cage himself. Instead, he’s looking into promoting MMA fighters.
Mayweather, who helps direct Mayweather Promotions, recently talked with Fight Hype about getting into the promoting business within the sport.
“I look forward to putting on my first MMA show also and having me some MMA champions,” he said. “Like I said before, Floyd Mayweather loves to think outside the box. We’re not just one-dimensional. We are very versatile and we have an open mind. When I get into the MMA game, I want them to make more money than they’re making, because from what I hear, they’re not being treated fair.
“Once again, I don’t have nothing to say about nobody. I’m only talking about what I’m here to do. I’m here to treat fighters fair. I’m here to treat MMA fighters fair, and I feel that the talent should win.”
The 37-year-old Mayweather is 26-0 in his boxing career, including a recent decision victory over Marcos Maidana to retain the WBA (Super), WBC and The Ring welterweight titles, along with the WBC light middleweight belt. He’s been the headline fight in many of the top pay-per-view boxing events, including his bouts with Saul Alvarez, Miguel Cotto and others.
“If you want to be treated fair, come over to Mayweather Promotions,” he added. “We believe in the talent winning. That’s what we believe in. I want a lot of MMA fighters to get in touch with Mayweather Promotion.”
