Quinton 'Rampage' Jackson Confirms Plans To Leave UFC, Cites Recent Reebok Sponsorship
By Dana Becker | January 15, 2013
Former UFC light heavyweight champion Quinton "Rampage" Jackson confirmed during a conference call on Tuesday that he plans to exit the UFC after his fight with Glover Teixeira. The two meet at UFC On Fox: Johnson Vs. Dodson.Jackson, who has spent much of 2012 on the sidelines dealing with injuries, said during the call that he recently signed a sponsorship deal with Reebok. However, Jackson was told by the UFC he cannot wear Reebok inside the Octagon, giving him just another reason to want to leave the promotion.
"It's all about respect," Jackson said. "I don't feel appreciated. I'd rather take a money cut and go to another show and be appreciated. It has nothing to do with money."
Jackson said he wants to "knock Glover out and move on to another chapter of my life." In his last bout, Jackson was defeated by Ryan Bader, but he said the constant matches with wrestlers isn't a main reason for his desire to leave.
"That's just one of the reasons," Jackson said. "I feel like the UFC doesn't know how to treat fighters. I feel like we do a lot for this sport and we are not taken care of well enough. Guys are fighting for $10,000, $20,000 and that isn't right. I don't want to be part of this sport (like that). I want to go somewhere where people take care of their fighters, treat us like human beings."
