Shane Carwin's Future In The Sport Looks Bleak
By Joseph Lisnow | December 08, 2012
It might be the end of the road for Shane Carwin (12-2) in MMA, as the former UFC interim heavyweight champion continues to struggle with injuries. Carwin was set to face Roy Nelson (17-7) later this month as both fighters currently coach opposite on the current season of The Ultimate Fighter (TUF)."He's completely bummed out and depressed and I feel bad for the guy," said White. "It's tough to bounce back, especially because he's not getting any younger and having a major injury like that, it's tough to bounce back from."
The 37-year-old Carwin was pulled from the fight with Nelson last month after suffering a knee injury. He would have been making his UFC return after undergoing back surgery.
The former interim heavyweight champion has not won a fight since 2010. He last competed in June 2011, losing to future heavyweight champion Junior dos Santos (15-1).
There is no timetable for Carwin's return.
Stepping in to fight Nelson will be former TUF contest Matt Mitrione (5-1). The two will meet on the finale of the season. They will headline the December 15 show out of the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas, NV.
