GSP-Nick Diaz The Likely Next Match, According To Dana White
By Dana Becker | December 06, 2012
It appears we can stop talking about any potential Georges St-Pierre vs. Anderson Silva super-fight happening in the near future. UFC president Dana White revealed on Thursday that GSP-Nick Diaz is the likely next for for the UFC welterweight champion."Georges St-Pierre went on vacation. When he came back, we were talking about Anderson Silva. He said, 'I want Nick Diaz. Me and Nick Diaz have unfinished business. That's the fight I want now,'" said White, following the UFC On Fox: Henderson Vs. Diaz pre-fight press conference (thanks to MMAjunkie.com for the quotes). "Georges St-Pierre has been a phenomenal champion, a phenomenal human being and just a great guy to work with for us. He doesn't ask for things. If he wants Nick Diaz, and Nick Diaz wants to fight him, that's probably the fight we'll make."
Cesar Gracie, the trainer for Diaz, posted on Twitter that his fighter would be down for accepting the match upon completion of his suspension.
If GSP-Diaz is signed, it would mark the third time the UFC has tried to put the fight together. It would also mean Johny Hendricks was passed over after being called the No. 1 contender following a win over Martin Kampmann.
