Josh Barnett Not Sure If The UFC Wants Him

Josh Barnett (31-6) isn't certain that there's room for him in the UFC once he makes his final Strikeforce fight next month against Nandor Guelmino (11-3-1).

"In the UFC, I know there's plenty of guys over there that would be happy if I never set foot in that Octagon," said Barnett to MMA Junkie. "But if it's not there, I know there will be other places. There's always people itching for a fight. That's where I come in."

Dana White said if Barnett was able to win in his last fight, he saw a UFC return as possible. Barnett lost that fight to Daniel Cormier (10-0) by way of decision. It was over a decade ago when Barnett became the UFC's heavyweight champion. He won the title at UFC 36 only to be stripped of it for testing positive for banned substances.

"I've now set foot in so many different organizations that all up and folded shop," said Barnett. "I hate being in that position. But I'm here to fight and to crush skulls and step over broken bodies. There's always an opportunity for that, somewhere, someplace."

Barnett returns to action for the first time in six months, after suffering a broken hand in the Strikeforce heavyweight grand prix thanks to Cormier. Guelmino will make his Strikeforce debut on a seven fight win streak.

Barnett and Guelmino meet at the final Strikeforce card scheduled for January 12 from Oklahoma. Showtime is set to air the event.
