UFC's featherweight champion José Aldo (21-1) looks to complete his MMA career by age 35, at which time he will transition back to his hobby of soccer. That means Aldo has another nine years left in the MMA before trading his fight gloves for a soccer ball.Aldo spent his teenage years playing soccer and looked to make it a career until MMA grabbed his attention.
"I like soccer a lot, so if I can do something related to soccer, that would be great," said Aldo through a translator to MMA Junkie.
Aldo is currently on a 14 fight win streak, where for the majority of his career he's fought under the UFC and WEC banner. He was the last WEC featherweight champion before the title was absorbed by the UFC. Aldo will be looking for his fourth title defense when he takes on Frankie Edgar (14-3-1).
Edgar is the former lightweight champion, who made the change in weight class after losing his title to current UFC lightweight champion Benson Henderson, and the rematch that followed. The two were originally set to meet at UFC 153 before Aldo was injured in a motorcycle accident.
Aldo vs. Edgar will now headline UFC 156 out of Las Vegas. The fight is expected to take place on February 2, 2013.
