GSP Says He Will Face Anderson Silva 'When I Decide The Time Is Right'

UFC welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre recently appeared on Radio Canada's Tout Le Monde en Parle show and was asked his thoughts on facing UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva. St-Pierre recently returned after nearly two years away to defeat Carlos Condit.

Rumors of a GSP-Silva bout have picked up in recent weeks, but St-Pierre was quick to say the bout is not guaranteed to happen in the immediate future.

"I want the fight, but I want to take it when I decide the time is right, not when he wants the fight to happen," St-Pierre said (thanks to MMAFighting.com's Ariel Helwani for transcribing). "This fight is the cherry on the sundae. He wants to fight me so he can then retire. I would like to fight him too, but after I fight him and win the fight, what happens next? These days, yeah, there's a lot of money to be made, but I don't fight for the money."

St-Pierre said his motivation is "to be the best. To be the Wayne Gretzky of my sport." He added that Silva "weights 234 pounds; I weight 188. So there's a big weight difference."

Silva's manager, Ed Soares, has said in the past that "The Spider" would drop weight, mentioning 174 for a catch-weight.

St-Pierre went on to say he still has things left to accomplish at welterweight before making any decisions on Silva. Johny Hendricks skyrocketed into the No. 1 contender spot when he bested Martin Kampmann recently, and there is always the Nick Diaz card left out there, as well.
