UFC Looking To Book Renan Barao In Early 2013
By Dana Becker | November 18, 2012
Interim UFC bantamweight champion Renan Barao could be getting a visit from UFC officials soon, as UFC president Dana White told members of the media following UFC 154: St-Pierre vs. Condit Saturday night that Barao may defend his title. Barao has previously stated a desire to wait for UFC bantamweight champion Dominick Cruz to unified the belts, much like Georges St-Pierre and Carlos Condit did."We were talking about Barao defending his title," White said. "So whether he wants to wait or not, we're going to go back to him soon and have him defend it."
Barao (29-1) picked up the title when he defeated Urijah Faber earlier this year. Cruz suffered a knee injury in training, and his return date has yet to be announced. Without making a definite decision, White pointed at Michael McDonald (15-1) as a potential challenger for Barao.
