MMA Veteran Returning For One More Fight
By Joseph Lisnow | November 17, 2012
Murilo Rua (20-13-1) announced his retirement following a quick 47 second TKO loss to Paul Filho (23-4-2) in September. Considering how the fight ended, the Brazilian is looking for one more chance early next year to leave the fans with a better memory of him. "Next year, in February, I intend to make my farewell fight here in Curitiba," said Murilo to Combat Magazine. "After that, I retire from fighting and dedicate myself to other projects."
In his 12 year career, Murilo has competed around the world. Some of the top promotions he fought for include Pride, Strikeforce, Cage Rage, EliteXC and DREAM. He was the first EliteXC middleweight champion. Throughout his travels, the one place Murilo never landed was the UFC.
His younger brother, Mauricio "Shogun" Rua (21-6), is a former UFC light heavyweight champion and still competes for the company. Despite not making it to the greatest stage in MMA, Murilo is fine sitting back as his brother continues to fight for the family's name.
"I'll never fully get away from Mauricio," said Murilo. "Still follow his preparation to fight; I will always follow his career."
Murilo's final opponent was not made public.
