Shane Carwin Out With Knee Injury, UFC Seeking Opponent For Roy Nelson
By Dana Becker | November 14, 2012
The UFC will likely be thankful for 2012 to end, as the year will go down as one of the most injury-riddled in recent history. Shane Carwin has suffered a knee injury and will not be able to face Roy Nelson. The two heavyweights, who are currently seen as coaches on The Ultimate Fighter, were set to square off in the main event of The Ultimate Fighter 16 Finale. UFC president Dana White made the announcement on Twitter Wednesday.
"WOW!! It never ends Carwin blew his knee out," White wrote. "Looking for a new opponent for Roy on the TUF Finale on FX."
Carwin, a former interim UFC heavyweight champion, mentioned a prior knee injury he suffered in training a few weeks back. However, he expected to be able to compete vs. Nelson on December 15.
As White said, the promotion is seeking a replacement for Carwin to keep "Big Country" in the main event. Nelson has won two of his last three fights.
