Georges St-Pierre Feels He Is An Improved Fighter
By Dana Becker | November 14, 2012
It's been nearly 19 months since we last saw Georges St-Pierre compete inside the Octagon. So, will the reigning UFC welterweight champion be prepared to deal with the proverbial "butterflies" that a long break brings on? "For sure, there will be butterflies, but the key is to getting them to fly in formation," St-Pierre joked on Wednesday during the UFC 154: St-Pierre vs. Condit pre-fight press conference. "I feel like a poet today. That's the key, for sure. It's going to be tough, but I don't want anything less than a title shot and to be fighting the best guy in the division; and that is Carlos Condit."
St-Pierre is arguably the top fighter in the world in the minds of many, but he believes this is a new chance to re-invent himself. Despite sporting a 22-2 career mark, many have called out GSP for not finishing several opponents.
"I believe I'm different than I was before, I believe I more of an improved version of myself," St-Pierre said. "My last fight (a decision victory over Jake Shields in 2011) was my worst fight. I was burned out mentally and physically. Now, I am happy to be here. I want to appreciate every second (of fight week)."
UFC 154 goes down this Saturday night from the Bell Centre in Montreal. The main card airs live on pay-per-view, and FightLine will be providing complete coverage of the entire event.
