Former Strikeforce champion Cung Le decided to take a different approach to his training prior to facing Patrick Cote. The end result was the first UFC victory for Le, and he has stuck to that plan ahead of his third bout inside the Octagon.Le will meet Rich Franklin this Saturday from China in the main event of UFC on Fuel TV: Franklin vs. Le. The bout will pit former champs against one another, as Franklin has held the UFC's middleweight title in the past.
After falling in his UFC debut to Wanderlei Silva, Le decided to not train with American Kickboxing Academy and to bring in Scott Sheeley to train with him on a one-to-one basis. The result, as far as Le is concerned, has been great.
"For my last two camps, I feel like things are starting to flow and starting to feel like my old self," said Le, during a recent appearance on MMAWeekly Radio. "Just being in the UFC, it was one of my dreams, and for my fight against Wanderlei, I didn't have the best camp. It was very unorganized and that's why I brought Scott Sheeley out for my second fight, and now Scott Sheeley just manages my whole training camp."
Le added that he still remains close to AKA and Javier Mendez, but said, "Javier is just too busy. He's got too many fighters and I can't have him holding pads for me two or three times in one camp. I've just got to focus on my fight. You're the one in the cage. You're the one fighting. You have your own style. Everyone's got great opinions, but in the end you've just got to focus on you and your opponent."
The 40-year-old Le (8-2) has balanced his trainings with his film work, which includes The Man with the Iron Fists, a recently released movie in which Le stars alongside the likes of Russell Crowe and Lucy Liu in.
