Cain Velasquez: Daniel Cormier Beats Jon Jones Anywhere

Former UFC heavyweight champion Cain Velasquez has plans on winning back the belt later this year when he meets Junior dos Santos and UFC 155: Dos Santos vs. Velasquez II. In doing so, that could force training partner and friend Daniel Cormier to drop down to 205 pounds.

Cormier, currently a heavyweight, has said in the past he would move to light heavyweight if Velasquez is the UFC champion. "DC," a former Olympian, has talked quite a bit lately about a potential match with Jon Jones, the current UFC 205 champion.

Velasquez was asked if Cormier would be able to get down to the weight limit and how he would fare against "Bones" in a recent interview with MMAFighting.com.

"He's heavy right now. He's like 204, but you know, we'll clean up his diet really good because the way his diet is, it isn't the cleanest," Velasquez said. "He's going to have to work a little bit at it. He just has to do it smart."

As for meeting Jones inside the Octagon, Velasquez said, "He's beat him. He's fast. He's powerful. He has the best wrestling out there. I think he beats him wherever they're at."

Velasquez and Jones were once teammates, as the two both attended Iowa Central Community College in Fort Dodge, Iowa. The two each won a national title at the NJCAA school.

For now, Cormier is still expected to compete one final time in Strikeforce, while Jones is locked in to a coaching spot on The Ultimate Fighter. He will meet Chael Sonnen in April.
