Jake Ellenberger Avenges Loss Against Jay Hieron

A more calculating Jake Ellenberger was able to beat Jay Hieron, earning a unanimous decision at the co-main event of UFC on FX 5. Known for his early offense, "The Juggernaut" seemed to pace himself throughout the fight, defeating "The Thoroughbred" with superior striking and wrestling.

The two fighters had plenty of history as Hieron was able to best a 21 year old Ellenberger in a 2006 IFL matchup. While Ellenberger was able to climb the ranks of the welterweight division, Hieron had to claw his way back to the UFC, going 11-1 in last dozen fights prior to tonight's co-main event.

Whether it was the prior loss to his record or just a more mature Ellenberger, the Nebraska Native looked far more measured than usual. He was able to best Hieron with his striking in the first round before working some solid ground and pound in the second. While Hieron's leg kicks kept him at bay in the final frame, Ellenberger clearly had the upper hand.

The win moves Ellenberger to 28-6 and puts him back at the top of the welterweight divison after a loss to Martin Kampmann in June. Hieron drops to 23-6 but will likely get another shot inside the Octagon after his performance tonight.
