Intense Staredown Has Travis Browne Ready For UFC On FX 5 Main Event
By Dana Becker | October 05, 2012
Travis Browne felt like he was preparing to face off with someone who wouldn't try to intimidate him. Instead, Browne found himself locked in an intense situation with Antonio Silva. The two heavyweights will meet tonight in the main event of UFC On FX: Browne vs. Bigfoot. Thursday, after both weighed in successfully, "Bigfoot" didn't back down from getting as close as possible to "Hapa."
"I squared up to do my normal face off, he got a little close and wanted to keep an eyeball on me," said Browne, in an interview with Fuel TV. "I am not going to back down. I am going to show him that right from the get-go. It's like you are in sixth grade again. I think it just got to a point where he is not going to intimidate me in that way. Nobody can, nobody will."
Browne (13-0-1) is hoping that a win over Silva will propel him up the heavyweight division rankings and towards a potential future title fight with. The lone non-win on Browne's resume came from a draw with Cheick Kongo.
A week after seeing Stefan Struve make a statement in the main event with a win over Stipe Miocic, Browne knows the pressure is on him to perform just as well.
"I need to go out there and dominate," Browne said. "Stefan Struve has been on a tear lately and I was his last defeat. People are going to be looking at me and thinking where they are going to place me. I need to go out there and show people I belong. I feel like I am going to have to do that my entire career, whether I am a contender or a champion."
FightLine will have complete coverage of tonight's card, beginning with the prelims this afternoon.
