Jay Hieron Finally Back Inside The Octagon
By Dana Becker | October 03, 2012
Jay Hieron will finally return to action with the UFC this Friday night, taking on Jake Ellenberger in the co-main event of UFC On FX: Browne vs. Bigfoot. Despite having his initial match postponed after the cancellation of UFC 151, Hieron isn't worrying about such things now."I am just glad I'm going to fight in the UFC," Hieron said. "I always believed I belonged in the UFC, that I was as good as the guys in the UFC."
Hieron went undefeated from 2007 until late in 2011, falling to Ben Askren in a close decision with Bellator. He submitted Romario da Silva before being called by the UFC to replace an injury Josh Koscheck against Ellenberger.
"I couldn't ask for a better comeback fight than Ellenberger," Hieron said. "I feel I know what Jake brings to the Octagon as well as anyone."
Hieron feels that way because he handed Ellenberger his first professional defeat back in 2006. He also helped prepare and corner Mike Pyle and Martin Kampmann in fights vs. Ellenberger.
"I beat him before, and I will beat him again," Hieron said. "I taught him how to lose."
