Jon Jones defeated his rival and former training partner Rashad Evans by unanimous decision earlier this month at UFC 145 to make the third defense of his light heavyweight title. The young dynamo knew before he beat Evans that a win would see him face off against veteran mixed martial artist Dan Henderson in his next title defense. UFC president Dana White indicated that the two were likely to be facing off at UFC 149 this summer -- the promotion's first event to be held in Calgary, Canada.
However, Jones' manager, Malki Kawa, told MMAFighting this week that UFC 149's July date will be too soon for the champ to turn around from his win over Rashad.
"He will not be fighting in July," Kawa said. "It's just probably a little too soon. There's been no timetable yet but July probably isn't going to happen. Jon's going to take a little time to himself, and then he'll get back into it."
UFC 149 is scheduled for July 21, making it exactly three months from his latest appearance.
