Hendo Denies Turning Down Machida Fight

UFC president Dana White said this week that it's been difficult to find a next opponent for Dan Henderson, since both the middleweight and light heavyweight champions are otherwise occupied and the 41-year-old veteran isn't interested in fighting with the only other top-tier opponent that's currently free, Lyoto Machida.

Responding to those wondering why he turned down a fight with Machida, who's accounted well for himself recently, even if he's been tacking more in the loss column than the win, Hendo explained that he was never actually approached with the possibility of fighting The Dragon and sounded open to the possibility.

"Was never offered machida," Hendo tweeted. "And even though he has lost 3 out of his last 4, I'm sure it would be entertaining."

Henderson last appeared in action at UFC 139 in November, taking a unanimous decision victory over Mauricio "Shogun" Rua in an epic fight that has been described as possibly the best fight in MMA history so far.

Hendo is in line for shots at either the middleweight or light heavyweight championships, but with both champions about to face their biggest rivals, Henderson takes the back burner and will be forced to sit and wait out those impending bouts if he doesn't opt to take a fight in the meantime.
