Dana White 'Beyond Disappointed' In Nick Diaz's Positive Test
By Mark Wayne | February 09, 2012
Nick Diaz tested positive for marijuana following his controversial UFC 143 decision loss to Carlos Condit last weekend, not so much to the surprise, but certainly to the disappointment of those who were looking forward to the already-materializing Diaz-Condit rematch.Among them is UFC president Dana White, who issued a brief statement today in regards to the news of Diaz's positive test.
"I am beyond disappointed that he tested positive for marijuana," said White. "It is now in the
hands of the Nevada State Athletic Commission."
The Nevada State Athletic Commission has yet to reveal the extent of Diaz's punishment, but it's assumed that he'll be suspended for at least six months (likely more since Diaz turned in a positive result in the state of Nevada before, at Pride 33 in 2007 after submitting Takanori Gomi), precluding a Diaz-Condit rematch from coming to fruition anytime soon.
Diaz and Condit did battle for five rounds at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas last Saturday, with the result a close decision in Condit's favor. Frustrated with the controversial decision, Diaz announced his retirement from MMA following the fight.
No extended word from the Diaz camp yet.
