Stephen Thompson Calls UFC Debut 'A Dream Come True'
By Mark Wayne | February 05, 2012
Last night in Las Vegas, Stephen "Wonderboy" Thompson picked up his sixth straight pro MMA victory and his first in the UFC. That alone would be enough to send most fighters home smiling, but the $65,000 Knockout of the Night bonus Thompson was awarded for separating Dan Stittgen from consciousness with a brilliant head kick had him grinning from ear to ear."Wow," Thompson said post-fight. "This is my first fight with the UFC and Dana White and everybody's taken really good care of me. This is the biggest stage in the world and the biggest promotion in the world. Coming from a small town in South Carolina, this is huge. I've never done a press conference before. But, you know, it's just a dream come true. I'm just gonna go back and train harder and hopefully I'll be able to fight again with the UFC. So, I love it."
Asked when he'd like to step in the cage again, Thompson pointed to the upcoming UFC 145 event -- which takes place nearby his home in Atlanta, Georgia -- as an event he'd be interested in contributing to.
"Atlanta's like two hours away from where I live. So, I mean, if that was possible, if the UFC wants me to do that, definitely. Definitely I would do that, fighting in Atlanta," he said. "I've got a big crew, a big fanbase there and they'd definitely fill up some seats."
UFC 143 went down from the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas; for full results from the event, click here. You can also check out the last installment of Thompson's blog, which he penned here on FightLine, by clicking here.
