Carlos Condit: I Came Here To Fight, Not Talk

Carlos Condit was crowned the UFC interim welterweight champion of the world last night at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas last night, having played the matador to Diaz's bull for five rounds to earn a unanimous decision victory.

Diaz came after Condit non-stop, trash talking and trying to goad him into a gutter war, but The Natural Born Killer kept his head and stuck to his game plan, circling away from Diaz and landing frequently while on his heels.

"This is just another step toward my ultimate goal of being among the best mixed martial artists in the world. He was talking. I was landing punches," Condit told the UFC post-fight. "I think I was winning. So, no matter how much he talked, I was hitting hard, I was hitting him solid. That's what I came here to do. I didn't come here to talk."

In victory, Condit takes home the interim belt in reigning champ Georges St-Pierre's absence, with a chance to face the dominant French-Canadian upon his return from a torn ACL -- something he knows he needs to work hard to ready himself for.

"I've got a lot of work to do and a lot more improvements to make," he said. "Georges is a true champion, and he's the best in the world. It's huge."
