Dana White Gives Update On BJ Penn: 'He's Just Chilling Right Now'

Following the sound beating he took at the hands of Nick Diaz at UFC 137 last October, future UFC Hall of Famer B.J. Penn announced his retirement from MMA, telling Joe Rogan and the crowd at the Mandalay Bay that he could no longer justify returning home to his growing family as battered as he was that night.

Given time for his wounds, both physical and emotional, to heal, Penn has backed off some on calling it a career, though he hasn't gone as far as committing to an actual Octagon return. UFC president Dana White recently spoke with the Hawaiian warrior for the first time since UFC 137, revealing to FightersOnly that The Prodigy is still mulling over his MMA future.

"I have been talking to B.J. Penn. Talked to B.J. Penn last week, it's the first time B.J. and I have talked since his fight," White said. "He's just chilling right now. B.J. just wants to relax and figure out what he wants to do with his career."

Penn (16-8-2) is one of two fighters (the other being Randy Couture) who can claim to have held UFC belts in two separate divisions, having earned the title at both lightweight and welterweight over the course of his legendary career.
