When asked about the recent allegations against Alistair Overeem, UFC president Dana White stated that he doesn't feel like it is anything that will keep Overeem from competing against UFC heavyweight champion Junior dos Santos later this year. "The Reem" was charged with misdemeanor battery after an incident in a Las Vegas club recently."I don't think he's in that much trouble," said White while at the UFC 143: Diaz vs. Condit press conference Thursday (thanks to MMAjunkie.com for transcribing). "This isn't a situation where he beat somebody up; I don't think that's the case.
"He had to use the restroom, this is my knowledge of what happened... security was going to take him. He said, 'I don't need security,' and sure enough he goes over there, and his side of the story is some lady started yelling at him and swinging at him and everything else."
The Las Vegas police issued a citation on January 2 that claimed Overeem "pushed or shoved" a woman in the face at the XS nightclub. He was not arrested at the time and is scheduled to appear in court on February 21.
Overeem earned his shot at dos Santos by defeating Brock Lesnar in December, scoring a first round victory over the ex-champion. Overeem is a former champion of Strikeforce, and is slated to meet "Cigano" as soon as his knee injury is healed up.
