Miesha Tate And Ronda Rousey Looking To Settle Differences On March 3
By Mark Wayne | January 30, 2012
An Olympic bronze medalist in judo, Rousey has rattled off four consecutive first round victories via armbar since making her MMA debut last March. An impressive statistic, which, when coupled with her aggressive promotional tactics, landed her the title shot against Strikeforce women's bantamweight champion Miesha Tate.
Considering that Rousey took the fast-track to a title shot in a division she's yet to compete in, Tate will go into this fight with a chip on her shoulder, believing it her duty to prove that Rousey has bitten off more than she can chew.
"I feel like Ronda will definitely be a challenge for me, but not one that I can't handle," said Tate. "Her Olympic experience is great, but this is MMA and her MMA career has been short. She hasn't truly been tested yet and I plan on doing just that when we meet in Columbus."
In Rousey's eyes, the 12-2 Tate is a worthy, but non-threatening opponent -- one whose test Rousey is eager to take.
"Miesha is a seasoned and respectable fighter, but she's not a dangerous fighter," said Rousey. "If she thinks she's going to submit me, she's got another thing coming. She'll have her chance on March 3rd and we'll all find out who the best female MMA fighter in the world is."
Tate and Rousey will meet on March 3 at the Nationwide Arena in Columbus, Ohio in the main event of Strikeforce: Tate vs. Rousey -- go figure.
