Michael Bisping Intent On Coming Back To Win Title Shot: 'I'm Going Nowhere'
By Mark Wayne | January 29, 2012
A moral victory may not be what he wanted, but Michael Bisping still walks away with one of significance following his split decision loss to number one contender Chael Sonnen. The two middleweights duked it out in the co-main event of UFC on Fox 2: Evans vs. Davis, which went down last night from the United Center in Chicago, Illinois, and, to the surprise of many, Bisping took it to Chael Sonnen. Far from getting steamrolled, as had been widely predicted, The Count handled himself well against Sonnen, putting up a strong enough fight that the split decision Chael Sonnen took home could very easily (and maybe should have) gone the other way.
With his performance, Bisping showed that he ranks among the middleweight elite and can more than hang with the division's elite on any given night. Though he's disappointed not to have gotten the judges' nod and subsequent title shot, Bisping does take solace in having proved his doubters wrong and has no intentions other than to fight back to the top.
"Yeah, absolutely," said Bisping when asked if he thought he'd ever fight for a title. "Tonight didn't go my way, everyone knows that. As I said earlier, I feel I gave a good account of myself. Chael's widely regarded as number two and, although I didn't get the victory tonight, I feel like I got something of a more victory -- although moral victories suck. But, yeah, I'm going nowhere. I've been doing this for a long, long time and I intend on doing it for a hell of a lot longer. I'm only getting better. It was a close fight, it was a good fight. I could've won that, I could've stopped it, but I didn't; well done to Chael. But, this is not the last you're gonna see of me. I will be fighting for a title and I will bloody win it."
