It took only a matter of seconds for Michael Bisping to tell UFC president Dana White that he would accept a bout with Chael Sonnen. The fight, which will determine the No. 1 contender in the UFC middleweight division, takes place January 28 from Chicago, Illinois at UFC on FOX 2.Mark Munoz suffered an injury in training and was forced to pull out of the fight with Sonnen, opening the door for Bisping to move up from a bout with Demian Maia and into a higher-profile match. Now, the brash Brit is just one win away from taking on Anderson Silva for UFC gold.
"Dana hadn't even finished saying Munoz was out before I was planning how to beat Sonnen in my head," wrote Bisping, in a blog for FOXSports.com. "I've accepted fights on short notice for the UFC throughout my career, but this one is a massive, massive chance for me, and I am very grateful to Dana, (UFC matchmaker) Joe Silva and the UFC."
The likely trash talk between Bisping and Sonnen will only help fuel the fire for next Saturday when the two step inside the Octagon. Both men don't like to back down, in or out the cage, so expect plenty of fire to go back and forth.
"Next week, I'm ready to go all guns blazing," Bisping wrote. "A fight is a fight, and at this level anything can happen, but all things being equal, Chael Sonnen cannot knock me out. He can't submit me, either. The worst that is going to happen is that he will outpoint me and, if I don't beat him, I didn't deserve a title shot against Anderson Silva anyway."
