Daniel Cormier is just as excited as everybody else about finishing up the year-long Strikeforce Heavyweight Grand Prix. It's Cormier's hand, however, that doesn't seem to want to play ball. After breaking his right hand seven months ago in a win over Antonio Silva, Cormier is still not 100 percent healed. The former Olympic wrestler will receive word from his doctor soon when he is ready to resume full training.
"I'm not sure if I re-hurt myself at some point," Cormier said in a recent interview with MMAjunkie.com, "but when it is completely healed, we're ready to go."
Josh Barnett will meet Cormier in the finals. The bout was rumored to be headed for a March 3 card from Columbus, Ohio, but the hand problems by Cormier seem to have nixed that idea. Instead, the Strikeforce card will be highlighted by a women's title match between Miesha Tate and Ronda Rousey.
