According to a report on MMAFighting.com, WWE Champion CM Punk will no longer be escorting Chael Sonnen to the cage at UFC On FOX in Chicago, IL on January 28th.The WWE superstar told the website that WWE CEO Vince McMahon nixed his appearance, which would have taken place the night before the WWE Royal Rumble pay-per-view.
Punk, a noted MMA fan, was only scheduled to escort Sonnen to the cage and would not have been in his corner. WWE has allowed similar appearances in the past as in 2009, then-WWE Superstar Dave Batista accompanied boxing superstar Manny Pacquaio to the squared circle for a boxing match with Ricky Hatton.
UFC on FOX 2 takes place on January 28, 2012 at the United Center in Chicago, Illinois. Sonnen will face Mark Munoz at the event, with the winner likely going to to face UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva for the title later in 2012.
