When you watch the former face of women's MMA, Gina Carano, make her film debut this Winter in the Steven Soderbergh helmed Haywire, don't be surprised if something about her seems off.Playing a Black Ops soldier on an ass-kicking revenge mission against the shady government heads who betrayed her while on mission, you certainly won't be seeing Carano's demure side on screen. More than that though, you may have a hard time recognizing the voice you hear coming from Carano's mouth. It was revealed this week that Carano's voice has been altered during post-production to ensure that viewers can detach themselves from the Carano they've come to know outside of acting.
"Stephen Soderberg wanted Mallory Kane [the character she plays in the movie] to be a completely different entity than Gina Carano," the 29-year-old explained in an interview with FightLinker. "So he definitely went in and I went in to AVR and he did some tweaking. We all knew that that was going to come up because people know me so well in the MMA world. But he is quite a genius in what he has created and it still was an honor to be a part of it. Even though it might not sound exactly like me, there are still parts of me that are in there. But he just wanted to make sure that that entity was completely different from myself."
Haywire, also starring Ewan McGregor, Michael Douglas, Antonio Banderas, and Michael Fassbender, will premiere Stateside on January 20.
