Current number one UFC heavyweight contender Alistair Overeem reportedly received every penny of his $385,714.28 payout for UFC 141, despite Golden Glory's legal attempts at garnishing his wages. The Dutch fighter's former training/management team filed a suit against Overeem in the state of Nevada, alleging that the fighter owed them outstanding fees from their prior contractual agreement. Though the judge ruled in favor of Golden Glory, Nevada State Athletic Commission executive director Keith Kizer today told MMAJunkie that Overeem's pay was given out in full.
Apparently, Golden Glory failed to deposit a $200,000 bond which was necessary in order to carry out the judge's ruling. Had the order been executed, Overeem's pay would have been reduced by some $240,000.
Since splitting with his longtime team, Overeem and Golden Glory have gone back and fourth in court, both alleging that the other party owes outstanding debts to the other; Golden Glory alleging that Overeem denied to pay them a 30 percent management fee after his bout against Fabricio Werdum last year and Overeem saying that Golden Glory owes him just over $150,000 in back pay.
Overeem made his UFC debut over the weekend, taking on and ruthlessly defeating former UFC heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar in the first round of their UFC 141: Lesnar vs. Overeem main event meeting.
