The Daily Line: Dana White Says Evans Smart, Rape Joke Stupid

Those were the words spoken by former UFC light heavyweight champion Rashad Evans at yesterday's UFC on Fox 2 press conference, a jab by the former Michigan State wrestler at his opponent, Phil Davis, a Penn State wrestling alum.

Evans was clearly just egging Davis on, the both of them coming at each other with playful pre-fight bluster, but he crossed the line when he referenced what is still a very open wound. Reaction to his words were mostly harsh, with Suga definitely getting his taste of condemnation from the press.

UFC president Dana White spoke with media today following the UFC 140 pre-fight presser (props to MMAWeekly) about Evans' controversial comment. He said what most should know about Evans already, that he most certainly isn't a bad guy, is smart and knows he went a little far.

Beyond letting him know that what he said was too much, White didn't see much further punishment necessary, though he was non-committal on officially reprimanding Evans in the end.

"We talked. … What do you want me to do? Want me to have our lawyers draw something up and I'll come out and read it to you guys? He said something stupid, it's probably one of the dumbest things you can say," said White. "He gets it, he knows it was a stupid thing to say. We'll see what happens."
