Nate "The Rock" Quarry has joined former opponent Shonie Carter in campaigning for a spot back with the UFC, though the affable Oregonian is looking to join the promotion's broadcast team rather than jump back into the Octagon.A competitor on the first season of The Ultimate Fighter, the 39-year-old Quarry has been fighting in the UFC ever since the inaugural TUF finale, posting a promotional record of 7-3, with his only losses against Rich Franklin, Demian Maia and Jorge Rivera. Quarry most recently appeared in action in March of 2010, losing to Rivera via second-round TKO. Following the fight, Quarry had to undergo facial reconstructive surgery; with his list of severe injuries piling up, Quarry has been on the fence about returning to the cage ever since.
Following Carter's lead (Mr. International posted a plea to fight once more for the UFC in Chicago on The Underground forum), Quarry took to The Underground today to petition for a broadcasting gig with the UFC.
"I want to be an on-air personality for the UFC. There I said it. As I teeter on the brink of retirement I realize more and more how much I want to stay involved with the sport that's given me everything in my life," said Quarry. "And I told Dana when I first signed with the UFC, I will never fight anywhere else. If the UFC cut me, that's it for me. It's because of the UFC and TUF that I've been able to provide for my daughter for the past 6 years. That's where I want to stay. My qualifications? Well, I've been a fighter for the past 14 years. I've trained with some of the legends of the sport and even cornered them for some of the greatest fights in UFC history. I was there when the UFC went from 5 shows a year to being in every home in America.
"And, I know my ish."
